WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • How often should I mow and at what height?
How often you should mow is directly related to the height. For most homeowners I recommend mowing between 3-4 inches. Grass is healthiest if you only mow off a maximum of 1/3 of the leaf blade at a time. Because of this if you were to be mowing at 3 inches you would need to plan to mow again once the grass reaches 4 inches, taking off one inch. If instead you are cutting at 4 inches your next mow would be when the grass reaches a little over 5 inches. Generally speaking during the spring and fall when grass grows at its fastest rate you would want to aim to mow once every 3-5 days and once a week during slower times.
  • Can I combine multiple services?
Of course! Any of our services can be bundled to improve the end result.
  • How often should I run my sprinklers?
In order to be able to determine how often and for how long you should run your sprinklers I think it is necessary to first determine how much water your sprinklers put out. You can hire an irrigation auditor to to do this for you or you could get a general idea simply doing a test known as the "tuna can test". Basically you set out any flat walled container, coffee mugs work great, sporadically throughout one zone and run that zone for 30 minutes. Once done measure how much water is in each container in inches. This will tell you exactly how much water you are getting onto the lawn. Now using that number you can do a little math to figure out how long you need to run the sprinkler to put out roughly 1-1.5 inches a water per week. On our primarily sandy soils I recommend splitting the watering up to 2-3x per week.
